HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston man who police say had repeatedly attacked his mother stayed in prison Monday after prosecutors allege he donned her and imposed a few nonfatal stab wounds on his father at his home, where he had been barred by being.
Kyriakos Savvas Georghiou’s mum had a protective order in place and he wasn’t assumed to be in the parents’ home, prosecutors said. He was accused of hitting at the 76-year-old girl from the face in April.
Jeffrey Wilner, his attorney, said the parents of Georghiou submitted his bail from the assault case and got him mental health care in a centre in Houston. Georghiou was in prison since June for the alleged assault.
“The mommy adored him. He was loved by his daddy. … I’m just in shock,” Wilner said Monday, adding that he “would have called the authorities and informed his father to not bail him out” when he had some idea that Georghiou would be a danger to his loved ones.
Georghiou, 27, allegedly went into his parents’ house and started stabbing at Jane Georghiou, said a prosecutor with the district attorney’s office in Harris County, Carvana Cloud, Texas.
When Costas Georghiou attempted to protect his wife, he had been stabbed many times in the torso and face, Cloud said.
Kyriakos Georghiou abandoned his parents’ home and his father went to get help. However, Georghiou came back with a knife that was second while the father was away, the prosecutor said.
“He continues to stab his mother to the point at which he kills her and her mind is severed from her own body,” Cloud said.
Georghiou’s father was hospitalized in critical condition following the attack. His condition has been upgraded to fair, hospital officials said.
Georghiou aggravated assault and has been held without bail on charges of murder. He has a court appearance scheduled for Thursday.
In the time of the traumatic assault, Georghiou’s bond was revoked by a judge after he missed a court hearing last week in the assault case where he faced a charge of injury to an older individual for allegedly hitting his mum in his automobile in April and knocking out one of her front teeth.
It had been the second time that Georghiou was arrested for an assault on his mother. He had been sentenced after pleading guilty to a charge of harm for punching on his mother, leaving her with a swollen left eye and teeth. He had previous arrests for drug possession and aggravated robbery.
Wilner said Georghiou “adored his mum” and that his parents had struggled for many years to get him help for his mental health issues.
“They tried all they could to get him,” the attorney said.
Georghiou’s parents drove out of prison on Sept. 6.
“I thought everything was OK if he bonded out,” Wilner said.
Cloud said investigators are still determining a rationale for the assault.
Even though Georghiou’s parents submitted his bail, Jane Georghiou had a protective order in place that barred him.
“Obviously we can not be with every victim through the night or day or whenever they are having interactions with family members or nearest and dearest,” Cloud said. “We do not have a crystal ball.”
Georghiou’s behaviour was a “consistent pattern for him and also the violence escalated,” the prosecutor said.
